About The 2024-2025 Monroe Select Program:

Monroe Sports Association offers a more competitive opportunity within the Organization. Our select team players do not have to live within the city of Monroe to play in our program. We offer our select programs to the following age groups: 7U-12U. Players will go against teams from other local organizations in our area. They will also play in tournaments in the spring and possibly the fall. In order to be on a team for the 2024-2025 season, all potential players will be required to attend a tryout in July. Please note the age divisions below.

What to Expect at Tryouts:

All players will be expected to wear cleats, baseball/softball pants, t-shirt (no jersey), hat/visor. MSA prides themselves on not having just great athletes but players with great work ethic, hustle, and sportsmanship. During tryouts your player will be evaluated on these things as well as skills such as hitting, baseball/softball IQ, fielding, accuracy, & pitching (only for teams where pitching is required). Most coaches will divide players into groups and evaluate these skills one at a time. Coaches will be in contact and teams will be posted by August 1, 2024.

Goal of The Monroe Select Program:

The goal of Monroe Select is to offer players the opportunity to develop their skills, continue their individual growth both in the game of baseball or softball and off the field. Our select program is a perfect balance of competition and fun. Monroe Select teams will compete against other high level teams from surrounding areas. We have a strong approach of building relationships within the community and representing Monroe proudly.

Season Expectations of Monroe Select:

Monroe Select teams will play in tournaments and other competitive regular season leagues & games. Travel to surrounding communities for away games will be required. Monroe Select players are charged between $300 & $700 for the season depending on the head coaches expectations for the season. Players will also be required to attend off season workouts starting sometime between August & September or whenever the head coach of your team decides they would like to start workouts. In the fall we have around 5-10 scrimmage games & possibly a few tournaments, along with practices. Over the winter we will typically have practice one day per week (possibly more depending on team/coach/age), which is not required if you have an in-season sport during the practice time (this also depends on the coach). Most coaches will do their best to work around the majority of players’ schedules during the off season. Monroe Community Park has an indoor hitting facility located at the park, and we also partner with local organizations to utilize gym space and other indoor facilities during the winter months. In spring we will begin mandatory practice 2+ days per week and begin with scrimmages. Once the official season starts you can expect 2-3 games a week along with practices, up to 5 games per week if you play a tournament that weekend . This all breaks down to what your coach thinks the team can handle. Season typically runs from April 1-June 30 each year and typically consists of 20-40 games depending on the age.

Parent Expectations:

MSA holds our select parents to a higher standard than all other parents. We expect parents to represent our program and community in a positive light. We know we’re all passionate about our kids and their successes and failures but we expect parents to maintain a certain level of class when representing our program. You will sign a contract at your team's signing party, as will your players, on these expectations. Parents will also be asked to volunteer their time with different fundraising activities, concession stand work, park clean up days, & other events throughout the year. Our program cannot run without parents who volunteer their time and help us fundraise. You may also be asked to help find sponsors for things such as bags, extra tournament entry fees, or other things for your team.
